Kompas.comKompas.comThe Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) has called on all online news media to uphold journalistic ethics to ensure accuracy in their reports.

"In the name of speed, page view and business development, online news media often deliver not-yet-verified news, which leads to misinterpretation," AJI Indonesia chairman Eko "Item" Maryadi said in his welcoming speech at the Online Media Annual Conference in Jakarta on Thursday.

Item said the number of complaints about online news media received by the Press Council was continuously increasing.

AJI suggested that online news outfits use the guidelines of cyber news writing recently compiled by the Press Council, he said.

He said Internet news media should remember the basic function of the mass media as a media of information, education and entertainment.
