Tribunnews.comTribunnews.comLocal security forces have planned to evacuate foreign inmates from Kerobokan Prison on the resort island of Bali following a second night of riots this week.

Following Tuesday night’s riot, police and Mobile Brigade (Brimob) officers reestablished control over the prison on Wednesday morning. However, clashes again flared late Wednesday night.

Udayana Military Command spokesman Col. Wing Handoko said that the evacuation of foreign inmates would be prioritized before evacuating minors and female inmates.

“[The foreign inmates] can be used as hostages by other inmates who want to take advantage of this situation, which has become international news,” Handoko said Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.

According to data from the prison, Kerobokan houses 60 foreign prisoners who are held with local inmates.

Handoko has yet to elaborate on the details on the evacuation process, however, some police officers said that most likely they would be transferred to Klungkung or Karangasem Prison. (swd)
