Tribunnews.com/Yudie ThirzanoFree bus tickets for the Transjakarta rapid transit service will be given away on Sunday in a bid to encourage more people to use public transportation.
Public service unit head Muhammad Akbar said on Thursday that despite up to 350,000 people using Transjakarta buses a day, residents had yet to consider the service as their preferred mode of transportation.
“The main aim is to encourage people to use public transportation - especially children and students. We want to familiarize them with public transportation so that, when they grow up, it becomes a habit,” Akbar said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
He said that his unit would make it an annual program.
“Every year, there will be a free Transjakarta riding day,” he said.
Transjakarta, with its 485 buses, currently serves 11 transportation corridors starting from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. (iwa)
