Bali Police chief Insp. Gen. Totoy Herawan Indra said following preliminary interrogation of Heru, the chief suspect in the murder of the family of Made Purnabawa, it appeared that the victims were attacked while they slept.
“He allowed four accomplices, [identified only as] HM, SG, HD and AK, into the house where they immediately proceeded to murder Purnabawa, his wife Ni Luh Ayu Sri Mahayoni and their daughter Ni Luh Risna Ayu Dewi by beating them with metal pipes,” Totoy said on Wednesday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
After murdering the family, Heru and his accomplices took the bodies and dumped them at Sumbul village, Jembrana district, which is two-and-a-half hours’ drive west of Denpasar. He said from there, Heru, his wife and the accomplices went to Situbondo, where the police later arrested Heru and his wife.
Residents of Kampyal housing complex in Nusa Dua, south of
Denpasar, initially informed police about the disappearance of Made Purnabawa’s family.
The police then broke into the house where they found evidence suggesting a violent crime.
After less than a week of pursuit, the police arrested
Heru, Purnabawa’s driver, who was the alleged mastermind of the murder.
Heru apparently held a grudge against Purnabawa over salary issues.
Totoy said the police would leave no stone unturned investigating the case. He said if Heru was subsequently proven guilty, he and his cohorts could face life
sentences for premeditated murder.(dic)
