Problematic generals to receive promotions

A- A A+

As many as 29 middle and high-ranking police officials are in line for promotions recommended by the Police Leaders’ Council, according to a copy of a list received by The Jakarta Post on Friday.

Among those officials include three high officials who were once considered “problematic”.

Among these generals include Brig. Gen. Edmon Ilyas and Brig. Gen. Raja Erizman, previously national police chief expert staffers, who were promoted to principle policy analyst overseeing socio-economic affairs and socio-culture affairs policy analyst respectively.

In the past there had been allegations that both Edmon and Raja had been implicated in bribery scandals involving former taxman Gayus Halomoan Tambunan. They were interrogated during ethics hearings conducted by the National Police headquarters, where they had been declared guilty and were dismissed from their previous prestigious posts.

Raja was director of transnational crime at the National Detectives Agency and Edmon was Jakarta deputy police chief.

In addition to Raja and Edmond, another suspicious promotion involves Insp. Gen. Budi Gunawan, who was elevated from his current post as internal affairs division chief to Bali Police chief, replacing Insp. Gen. Totoy Herawan Indra.

Totoy would be posted as National Police chief expert staff on management.

Budi Gunawan’s name was among several police generals who reportedly held suspiciously large bank accounts. However, unlike Raja and Edmon, no investigation of Budi Gunawan was ever conducted.
