Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu and the National Scouts Movement chief Azrul Azwar signed a memorandum of understanding on tourism awareness in Jakarta on Monday.

"We see that the scout movement is an effective way to spread tourism awareness among scout members as well as Indonesian citizens," Mari said.

She said that the ministry planned to certify 15,000 tourism officers nationwide and that she hoped some of them would be from the scouts.

"Through this agreement, we will also help the scouts to improve their skills in tourism campaigning," she said.

Azrul said that the scouts were ready to support the country to better promote tourism.

"With 21 million young scout members, we are the country's future leaders who are responsible for the country's development," he said. (nfo)
