Kompas.com/Ferganata Indra RiatmokoKompas.com/Ferganata Indra RiatmokoSome people might worry that Indonesian kids today do not listen to enough children’s songs and do not get enough sun when they play with their playmates.

Those people include singer/songwriter Dik Doang, who says that Indonesia lacks children songs that contain educational and inspiring messages.

“I feel sorry for mothers. They have a hard time finding good children songs with good educational messages,” Dik said Wednesday when he and children from the Kandank Jurank Doank community performed at the Gramedia Book Fair in Senayan, Jakarta.

“Children nowadays also hardly know traditional games. They prefer to play indoors, whereas playing outdoors is so much fun,” he said as quoted by kompas.com.

During the performance, Dik and the other performers played children songs which, for example, include messages about how great Indonesian traditional games are and teach about loving and respecting teachers.

Dik also rearranged some popular children songs written by AT Mahmud and Pak Kasur, Indonesian famous children’s songwriters. (swd)
