Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Joko "Jokowi" Widodo says that he and running mate Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) will wear matching shirts during their election campaign.
Jokowi and Ahok wore similar checkered shirts while registering their candidacy with the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPUD) on Monday.
"The shirts’ red, blue and white colors represent Jakarta, a city of diversity," he said in Jakarta as quoted by tempo.co on Sunday.
"People of different backgrounds, ethnicity and race can be found in Jakarta. The city is so colorful," he pointed out, adding that Jakarta residents, however, should not become fragmented like the shirts' pattern.
The Surakarta mayor boasted that within two weeks, Jakarta youngsters would be wearing the same shirts.
"We have prepared thousands of these shirts. I want to be a trendsetter in Jakarta," he said. (swd)
