Misbach Yusa Biran, 78, a film director, screenwriter, short-story author, columnist and founder of the Indonesian film archive Sinematek Indonesia, passed away on Wednesday at the Eka Hospital in Bumi Serpong Damai, Tangerang.
He is survived by his wife, actress Nanny Widjaja, and their five children.
He will be buried at the Al-Ihyah Cemetary in Ciomas, Bogor on Wednesday afternoon, where his late daughter, actress Sukma Ayu, who died a few years ago, also lays.
Senior actor Deddy Mizwar said this was a great loss for Indonesia’s film industry, considering Misbach’s efforts in developing Indonesia’s film archives.
“He really loved movies and so he established the archives,” he said Wednesday as quoted by tempo.co. (iwa)
