Comments: TNI-AU could rival China, US by 2045, expert says

April 10, Online

Indonesia is expected to have an Air Force that is on par with those of China and the United States by 2045, University of Indonesia defense expert from Andi Widjajanto said on Tuesday.

Speaking at the International Air Power Seminar 2012, Andi said that the Indonesian Air Force’s (TNI-AU) capacity for air force dominance in 2012 was slightly below that of Malaysia, adding that the strongest air force presence in Southeast Asia belonged to the US, according to Jane’s Southeast Asia Air Force Inventory 2012.

Your comments:

Indonesia will never have any sort of military parity with China, especially their Air Force! Just look at the priorities of this maritime country and its unusually poor navy.

I cannot recall reading another sentence as silly as the one stating Indonesia has supremacy over Timor Leste.

Wow. Indonesia has 500 times as many people and Timor Leste is the poorest country in all of Asia (mostly thanks to Indonesia).

Indonesian pilots are poorly trained, poorly paid and there are not enough quality aircraft. They stand no chance whatsoever against Singapore, Australia and New Zealand! Indonesia does not even have air to air missiles!

How they are going to fight? Even if the TNI AU has grown larger by 2045, are you expecting that China’s air force will stop growing?

Forget about the Air Force, we have submarines can’t even dive today, not 2045, but now.

Good commentators should have double-checked the article. It said on par with US and China in dominating Southeast Asia, which is its legitimate domain. This makes it very plausible, no?

None of the posters realize that what the writer have said is that he is confident in growth projections and corruption reductions to maximize productivity.
