JAKARTA: Education and Culture Minister Mohammad Nuh claimed on Thursday that senior high schools were better prepared to hold the National Examinations this year.

“We did hear complaints about leaks of test materials, key answers and test distribution, and about cheating during the National Examinations,” Nuh said. “But I can assure you that those problems can never be 100 percent eradicated, and that this year’s exam performances were much better.”

Nuh said he received 752 complaints during the exams, but asked people not to read too much into the number. He said he would bring any cases indicating legal violations to the police.

Meanwhile, the Teachers’ Tears Community (KAMG) in Medan, North Sumatra, said the exams were still not free from cheating, despite calls for the government to curb it. A teacher from Deli Serdang regency, Resita Lubis, said exam inspectors deliberately let students cheat.
