Police say a British dipomat may lose sight in his left eye after he was mugged in London.
George Fergusson, 56, was due to take the post of governor in the British overseas territory of Bermuda later this month.
Metropolitan Police say Fergusson was attacked as he walked through Hammersmith in West London on Friday evening.
The assailant stole a small amount of money and left the diplomat with facial injuries including serious damage to his left eye.
Fergusson managed to walk to a nearby hospital after the attack, and doctors are still trying to save his vision.
Police said Sunday that they believe the attacker had no motiv except to steal money. There have been no arrests in the case.
