JAKARTA: Singer and composer Iwan Fals says he was surprised to discover he was going to play at a high school in Makassar
AKARTA: Singer and composer Iwan Fals says he was surprised to discover he was going to play at a high school in Makassar.
“I thought I was going to perform at a reunion because I thought my music genre is too old for teenagers,” he said last week as quoted by kompas.com.
Iwan was chosen because of his activities the last few years as an environmental activist. “Rather than criticizing intricate politics, it is far more concrete to ask people to preserve the environment,” he said.
Iwan also recalled his son, Galang Rambu Anarki, who died at the age of 15. “When he was still in high school, Galang said ‘I want to quit school because what would be the point if every day it is only filled with cheating’,” he recalled, before reminding the students to remain honest in order to help improve the nation.
