A suspect in a car crash that killed nine pedestrians earlier this year will face her first trial later today, a prosecutor has confirmed.
Rusmanto, head of crime division of the Central Jakarta Prosecutors’ Office, said Wednesday that his office had submitted dossier of Apriyani Susanti – the main suspect in the Jan. 22 car crash – to the Central Jakarta District Court, metrotvnews.com reported.
Apriyani, who was allegedly driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, went out of control and plowed into 13 pedestrians, killing nine of whom, near the Gambir train station, Central Jakarta.
The 29-year-old driver has been charged with drug abuse and reckless driving, and therefore could face a maximum of 12 years in prison. (asa/mtq/ued)
