The Democratic Party has extended permission to its members who wish to visit their fellow politician, Angelina Sondakh, who is currently being detained for her alleged role in a bribery scandal, party spokeswoman Andi Nurpati said on Saturday.
“The party’s members are allowed to visit her as long as they do it according to schedule,” she said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
The spokeswoman was responding to a query on whether Angelina has been banished by her colleagues after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) apprehended the former beauty queen on Friday evening in the anti-graft body’s new detention block.
Tribunnews.com reported that as of Saturday afternoon, none of the politicians from the ruling party appeared to visit her at the KPK’s detention facility, including party chairman Anas Urbaningrum.
Commenting on this, Andi said that her party respected the Commission’s decision to detain the lawmaker.
She added that the Democratic Party was willing to provide legal assistance to Angelina.
“However, she has appointed a lawyer by herself,” said Andi, referring to Arman Johari, who Angelina has retained to represent her in the case. (asa)
