Hendardji vows leadership with a ‘humane’ approach

Jakarta independent gubernatorial hopeful Maj. Gen. (ret) Hendardji Soepanji said, if elected, he would lead the capital with a humane approach. He said a leader needed to develop empathy in order to better understand the people’s needs.

“We will produce better results if we use empathy in solving people’s problems here,” Hendardji said in a discussion organized by The Jakarta Post on Monday.

When asked what he would do to tackle the capital’s never-ending traffic problems, Hendardji said that he would simplify the public transportation system.

“Many people have to switch between four and five different transportation modes in order to get to their destinations. In fact, many of these people end up getting lost,” the former military police commander said.

Therefore, he added, an integrated transportation system that would allow people to pay once for their whole trip should be immediately implemented.(png/dic)
