Lilyana-Tontowi win Indian Open

Indonesian mixed doubles duo Tontowi Ahmad and Lilyana Natsir won the trophy at the 2012 Indian Open badminton tournament after seeing off.

Thailand’s Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thoungthongkam in three games.

The All England champions required 55 minutes to overcome their opponents in the final round, winning the duel 21-16, 12-21 and 21-14.

Lilyana and Tontowi were the favorites to bring home the open title after defeating the Thais in both of their previous meetings.

However, playing at the Siri Fort Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, the world No. 3 pair was stunned by the aggressive play shown by both Prapakamol and Thoungthongkam.

The Thais managed to steal the second set 21-12 and led the third set 10-8.

However, the Indonesian pair, seeded second in the tournament, managed to turn the tables by taking eight points in a row, leading 16-10.

Prapakamol and Thoungthongkam tried to fight back by taking four points before succumbing to the Indonesians who won the battle 21-14. (asa/ued)
