Philosophic Ical shrugs off intra-Golkar atacks

Golkar party chairman Aburizal ‘Ical’ Bakrie is shrugging off internal critics of his formal nomination as the party’s presidential candidate for 2014.
“Of course there have been political attacks on me. Just like the proverb says, ‘the higher the tree then the bigger the wind will blow’. I don’t want just to be the grass; even though the wind won’t bother it, the people could easily step on it,” Ical said on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.
Ical was responding to recent internal criticism of his potential presidential bid. Golkar supervisory board chief Akbar Tanjung, for example, suggested that Ical allow the party’s grass roots to name potential candidates instead of directly naming himself as Golkar’s candidate.
Party executives expected to formally name Ical as the Golkar’s presidential candidate at its national meeting in July.(asa/dic)
