ekanbaru: A rare and endangered Sumatran tiger has escaped from a boar net set in a corn field in Pelalawan, Riau.
Arifin, the Teluk Meranti farmer who set the trap, was attacked by the tiger when he inspected the net on Tuesday with his father, according to Pulau Muda village head Rustam.
“The net was installed about 1 kilometer behind his house,” Rustam said on Thursday.
Arifin was startled to be attacked by a tiger when he approached the net, Rustam said. However, the farmer and his father drove the beast way, suffering only minor injuries.
There are less than 800 Sumatra tigers left in the wild, according to reports.
