Indorama pulled of a thriller against Menara, while Bogor CC beat GMIS CC to book spots in semifinals of the Apple Coal JCA League 2011-2012 over the weekend.
A fighting unbeaten 49 by Vinod Verghese helped Indorama pull of an unlikely 2 wicket victory over Menara with just 1 ball to spare.
Sent in to bat first, Menara started cautiously and was 55/3 in 12 overs and 120/5 in 23 overs. A vintage knock of 76 runs from Atul Kakkar propelled Menara to 163/5 in 29 overs and at that stage a score above 200 was in the cards. But a late order batting collapse saw Menara all out for 184 runs.
Srikkanth & Nitin Joshi picked up 2 wickets apiece. Rikesh scored 22 runs. Indorama started well in their run chase and were 53/2 in 12 overs, but Menara bowlers kept chipping in with regular wickets to reduce Indorama to 126/7 in 24 overs.
A late revival by Vinod along with Govind Sodhani (23) ensured Indorama’s victory. Vishwajit Tripathi made 31 runs. Gajendra picked up 3 wickets.
In the other quarterfinal match at GMIS grounds, Bogor CC beat home team GMIS CC by 24 runs. Batting first, Bogor started at a blistering pace plundering 80 runs in 11 overs losing 3 wickets.
GMIS CC fought back to restrict Bogor to 209/8 in 35 overs. Faheem scored 58 runs and Hanan made
31 runs. Mohit Singh picked up 3 wickets.
Despite losing 4 early wickets for 38 runs, GMIS CC recovered well to finish at 113/5 in 24 overs. But the required run rate was too much and in the end, GMIS CC folded for 185 runs. Mohit Singh top scored with 67 runs.
In the semifinals, slated for May 20, Indorama will face favorite WISCI while Bogor will clash with Senayan CC. — JP
