A picture of The
Beatles walking across an Abbey
Road crosswalk in the opposite direction from that
depicted on their famous album cover will be auctioned in London on Tuesday.
The picture was
taken by late photographer Ian McMillan at the same time as the one used for
the Abbey Road
album cover.
On the cover,
the four Beatles are crossing from left to right.
In the picture,
Paul McCartney, who was barefoot on the album sleeve, is wearing sandals.
The photo is
expected to fetch from £7,000 (US$11,100) to ££9,000in light of the high level of attention the picture has
received from Beatles' fans and others.
According to
auctioneer Bloomsbury Auctions, McMillan took six pictures, including the one
to be auctioned, during the 10-minute photo opportunity.
One of music
photography's most iconic images, the idea was conceived by McCartney, who
"drew a sketch of exactly how he wanted the cover to be," according
to Bloomsbury. (nvn)
