The Kemayoran police precinct in Central Jakarta said on Saturday that they had caught two motorbike thieves red-handed in the wee hours of the morning.

The two suspects, identified as M, 18, and L, 23, were caught trying to steal a motorcycle on Jl. HBR Motik early on Saturday.

Police officers had reportedly grown suspicious and watched their movements for quite some time before finally apprehending them.

After detaining both, officers then went to their house and searched for further evidence.

“We confiscated four stolen motorbikes there,” Kemayoran precinct’s chief detective Adj. Comr. Sahadman Gultom said.

The police are still questioning L and M as they dig deeper into the case.

“We’re trying to find out whether they have other motorbike-stealing friends out there,” Sahadman said.

Both L and M have been charged with armed robbery under Article 365 of the Criminal Code with a penalty of up to 12 years imprisonment, as both were allegedly known to harm their victims during their robberies. (mtq)
