Here’s the case: A lawyer from the Secure Elections Coalition (Peneliti Perludem), Veri Junaedi, (center) and his friends submit documents for judicial review at the Constitutional Court in Jakarta on Friday. They say one of the articles in the 2012 Elections Law violates the 1945 Constitution because it stipulates the mandatory 3.5 percent legislative threshold. A number of groups have requested a judicial review of the same article, saying the mandatory threshold would drive smaller parties out of the country’s political system.
