Indonesia’s oldest state university, Gajah Mada University (UGM) in Yogyakarta, has installed Prof. Dr. Pratikno as its new rector for 2012-2017, replacing Prof. Dr. Sudjarwadi.
The former UGM Social Political Science School dean outclassed other contenders, including Prof. Dr. Marsudi Triatmodjo and Prof. Dr. Danang Parikesit, during the selection process.
The official installation ceremony, which was held in the university’s main hall, was led by UGM board of trustees' chief, Prof. Dr. Sofyan Efendi, who is also one of the university’s former rectors. Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, Constitutional Court Chief Justice Mahfud MD and House of Representatives' Deputy Speaker Priyo Budi Santoso were among the distinguished guests attending the ceremony.(dic)
