Police arrest TNI intel over attempted ecstasy smuggling

A- A A+

National Narcotics Agency (BNN) investigators have announced the arrest of an intelligence officer who works for the Indonesian Military’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS TNI) and seven civil accomplices for their alleged involvement in the smuggling of 1.4 million of ecstasy pills, which has been hailed as the biggest raid in the past decade.

"The suspected officer, identified only as S, belongs to the Air Force. He is now in our custody but we will deliver him and his dossier to military police investigators soon after we finish with him," BNN's spokesman, Sumirat Dwiyanto, said on Tuesday.

He said the BNN investigators were also pursuing who might be the mastermind behind the smuggling.

“We have uncovered good information leading in that direction. Just give us more time to prove it,” he said.

The raid was conducted following Tanjung Priok port authorities’ suspicions about the contents of a container that arrived from China on April 28, and which was inspected by S himself.(png)
