Judges at the Semarang Corruption Court, Central Java, convicted Democratic Party lawmaker Sumartono on Tuesday and sentenced him to two-and-a-half-years in prison for taking bribes to endorse the 2012 city budget.
He was also obliged to pay a Rp 50 million (US$5,226) fine.
Sumartono, along with fellow lawmaker Agung Purno Sarjono from the National Mandate Party (PAN) and city secretary Akhmat Zaenuri, were caught by the KPK with Rp 40 million in envelopes at the Semarang mayor’s office on Nov. 24, 2011.
Akhmat had been sentenced last month to one-and-a-half years in jail while Agung and Semarang Mayor Soemarmo Hadi Saputro are facing six and five year’s imprisonment, respectively, in a similar case. (iwa)
