Donny Damara, Raihanun shine at 2012 Indonesian Movie Awards

Senior actor Donny Damara and young actress Raihanun were crowned as best artists in the 2012 Indonesian Movie Awards at the Indoor Tennis Stadium in Senayan, Central Jakarta late Wednesday.

Donny’s performance as a transvestite sex worker in Lovely Man, a film directed by Teddy Soeriaatmadja, earned him the Best Actor award, while Raihanun, who played his daughter in the movie won the award for Best Actress.

“I am really pleased with my achievement so far. I hope this award will encourage me to keep supporting the Indonesian film industry,” Donny said as quoted by tribunnews.com.

The award for Best Supporting Actor went to actor Hendro Jarot who starred in the movie Sang Penari (The Dancer), while Dewi Irawan, who also acted in the movie, received the Best Supporting Actress award.

Actor Yosie Kristianto, who played a 16-year-old soccer player in the movie Tendangan Dari Langit (Kick from the Sky), received the award for Best Male Newcomer.

Meanwhile, actress Prisia Nasution gained the Best Female Newcomer Award for her outstanding performance in Sang Penari.

Senior actor Tio Pakusadewo won the Favorite Actor award for his performance in the movie Dilema (Dilemma), while his co-star in the film, Wulan Guritno, was crowned Favorite Actress.

The award judges included senior actor Didi Petet, senior journalist Leila S. Chudori, screenwriter Salman Aristo, actor Alex Komang and filmmaker Aditya Gumay. (asa/dic)
