Chrysler sales rise 30 percent as companies report

Chrysler says its US sales rose 30 percent last month on strong demand for Ram pickups and Jeeps.
The company says it sold more than 150,000 vehicles in May, compared with 115,000 in the same month a year ago.
The increase is a sign that auto sales remain a bright spot in the US economy despite a falling stock market and shaky consumer confidence. All major automakers report sales figures on Friday.
Total US sales for May should rise 30 percent to 1.4 million cars and trucks, according to forecasts from industry analysts.
The comparison is against poor sales in May of 2011, when dealers ran short of Honda and Toyota models after the March earthquake in Japan. (nvn)
