Oxford opens doors to Indonesian researchers, students

Oxford University is inviting Indonesian researchers, professors and students to work with them in order to increase research and learning opportunities between Indonesia and Great Britain.
Education and Culture Minister Muhammad Nuh said Oxford was chosen as a partner due to its 900-year history of academic excellence. Oxford is also a great way to promote Indonesia, Nuh said, due to its wide range of networking opportunities.
"This happens to be a great way to introduce Indonesia to the rest of the world," Nuh said, as quoted by kompas.com.
Right now, Indonesian researchers and Oxford University are currently working together on malaria research through Oxford's Southeast Asia Project.
Only 11 Indonesian students happen to currently be studying at Oxford. On the other hand, the amount of Oxford students from countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand range from the dozens to the hundreds.
Oxford Vice Chancellor Andrew Hamilton said that a joint venture between Indonesia and Great Britain could be mutually beneficial for science and culture. (png/dic)
