Taufiq hospitalized due to scarlet fever

People Consultative Assembly (MPR) chief Taufiq Kiemas has reportedly been infected with scarlet fever, and is currently hospitalized due to this condition.

The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) patron and husband of former president Megawati Soekarnoputri was initially scheduled to read the opening speech for the MPR's commemoration of Pancasila Day on Friday.

"Mr. Taufiq Kiemas is not well today," said daughter Puan Maharani on Friday, as quoted by tribunnews.com.

"His body is weak and doctors have told him not to attend today's event. His family has also advised him not to attend," Puan said. (png/dic)
