JAKARTA: The Jakarta Police say that officers have arrested five men allegedly involved in a post-soccer match brawl that led to three deaths and several injuries on Sunday.

“We arrested them on Thursday,” Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Untung S. Radjab said on Friday.

The brawl erupted when fans of Persija Jakarta, known as Jakmania, and fans of Persib Bandung, known as the Vikings, clashed at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Central Jakarta. Both Jakmania and the Vikings are notorious rivals.

The police have so far questioned 18 people, including members of Persija, Jakmania’s coordinator and the police officers who were in charge of supervising the match.

Investigators have yet to name the five men detained as suspects in the case.
