Jayapura student dies in a gang assault

A university student was stabbed and beaten to death by a group of men on his way home in Jayapura, Papua, late on Sunday.

The victim, identified as Jimi Ajudh Purba, 19, was driving his motorcycle heading to his boarding house in a neighborhood in Abepura, Jayapura, when a convoy of men driving motorcycles was heading in the opposite direction.

Seeing the group, Ajudh pulled over, but the gang suddenly attacked him, stabbed him in the ribs and left hand several times.

The convoy immediately fled the scene.

The victim was rushed to Dian Harapan Waena Hospital immediately by his colleagues to undergo an autopsy.

The police have yet to issue an official statement regarding the case, according to tribunnews.com. (asa)
