National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar said the suspected drug dealers who were recently arrested with 5 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, locally known as shabu-shabu, could face a maximum life sentence.

“If later on they are proven to be drug dealers, then they could face life sentences,” Boy told a press conference on Wednesday as quoted by tempo.co.

The drug dealers, identified as Malkan and Arnia Yusuf, were arrested yesterday at an apartment in Kalibata, South Jakarta by a team of investigators from the National Police’s narcotics unit, led by Sr. Comr. Siswandi.

They had been under surveillance for months before the arrest as the police had pocketed preliminary evidence regarding their roles in the narcotics-distribution industry.
