UPANG: Border areas are prone to foreign media infiltration, which, according to the Indonesian Broadcast Commission (KPI), is a threat to the country’s sovereignty.
KPI head Mohammad Riyanto Rasyid said that people in border areas received foreign television and news broadcasts more often than local transmissions. “This happens because the range of Radio of Republic of Indonesia (RRI) and Television of Republic of Indonesia (TVRI) transmission is very limited, including that of private radio and television stations that does not reach villages in border areas,” Riyanto said in Kupang.
He said particular borders areas in Kalimantan received radio and television programs from Singapore and Malaysia, but not from Indonesia.
