With air conditioners, five sets of sofas, a television, and a water dispenser complete with a tea-and-coffee set, the police chief’s reception area is one of the most pleasant public areas one can find at the Jakarta Police headquarters.
It is a space provided to anyone who wishes to meet the city police chief, Insp. Gen. Untung S. Rajab. In the words of city police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto, the room “is open to just about anyone”.
Your comments:
How naive, nobody would do such a thing (to bribe) if there was no police corruption.
People who are experienced in dealing with the police know how the culture of corruption is unbelievably deep rooted in the institution.
No matter what case brings you into their office, almost nobody will leave without surrendering a bunch of money. Come on people, wake up!
