KPU Jakarta ready to face lawsuits from unhappy candidates

The Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) says that it is prepared to face potential lawsuits from Jakarta gubernatorial candidates who feel dissatisfied with the final voters’ list (DPT) that they have prepared.

Earlier this week, five of six sets of Jakarta governor candidates, with the exception of incumbent Governor Fauzi Bowo who is running for reelection, officially rejected the KPU's final voters' list and

planned to sue the commission over alleged omissions that led to irregularities found on the list.

"We have our own team of advocates. We'll make sure that we present all the data and facts related to that lawsuit," said Aminullah, who is head of the KPU's Jakarta elections registration working group, on Sunday, as quoted by Antara news agency.

Aminullah said that the KPU Jakarta still did not know the details of what the lawsuit might entail.

"But whatever the courts decide, it won't put a halt to the scheduled Jakarta gubernatorial elections," Aminullah said. (png)
