Banten deputy governor Rano Karno’s adopted son Raka Widyarma and Raka’s girlfriend Karina Andetia will soon stand trial on drugs charges at the Tangerang District Court after the police submitted the dossiers of their case to the Tangerang prosecutors’ office on Monday.

“Today, we received the complete dossiers of the Raka and Karina drug cases from the Airport Police and we have formed a team of prosecutors to prosecute them,” Tangerang’s head prosecutor Jaja Subagja told reporters at his office on Monday.

He said that a team of prosecutors led by Andi DJ Konggoasa and two other members, Riyadi and Putri Ayu would soon prepare the indictment, which would have to be delivered to the District Court within a week.

Raka and Karina, who are currently detained at the Tangerang Youth Correctional House, have been charged under Articles 112, 113, 114 and 127 of the 2009 Law on Narcotics.

The articles carry a maximum punishment of up to 20 years imprisonment and Rp 10 billion (US$1.06 million) in fines.

Raka and Karina were arrested after officers of the Soekarno Hatta International Airport Police became suspicious over a small package that had just arrived from Malaysia through air cargo on March 4. An X-ray scan found that the package contained ecstasy pills.

The officers then disguised themselves as employees of a delivery service company and delivered the package to its intended recipient, a resident of a Bintaro house named Irwan Imam, as written on the package.

Karina and Raka, who greeted the “couriers” at the Bintaro house, frankly admitted that the package was their order without having any suspicion that the couriers were actually police officers.
