Prosecutors seek 4 months for reckless teacher

Prosecutors demanded on Tuesday a four month prison sentence for Marini, a teacher with the Buddhist Bodhicita Institution in Medan, North Sumatra, who swerved into dozens of pupils while trying to move her car in March.

Prosecutor Lila Nasution said that Marini had injured dozens of people due to her negligence. However, Lila said the fact that Marini had reconciled with the victims’ parents eased Marini.

Sukirman, one of Marini’s lawyers, said that they objected to the indictment, saying that “it is the parents that wanted a light sentence for Marini.”

Seventeen pupils of the Buddhist Bodhicita kindergarten, who were carrying out stretching exercises, were injured after a car driven by Marini ran into them.

The injured were then rushed to Columbia Asia hospital. One of the pupils had to be treated in Penang, Malaysia, tempo.co reported. (swd)
