Singapore in talks with US over Iran oil imports

Singapore says it is in talks with the US about getting an exemption from economic sanctions designed to limit oil imports from Iran.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement Tuesday that Singapore did not import any Iranian crude last month. Singapore is a major Asian trading hub for crude and oil products.
The US on Monday exempted seven nations from sanctions after they significantly reduced Iranian oil imports.
The US sanctions are designed to pressure Iran into allowing inspectors access to its nuclear power program to ensure no weapons are developed.
