Jakarta candidates reveal personal assets

Six candidate pairs running in the Jakarta gubernatorial election revealed their assets at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) headquarters on Thursday.

The candidates disclosed their personal wealth to the public as a requirement before competing in the July 11 election.

Incumbent Fauzi Bowo disclosed that he owned a total of Rp 59.39 billion (US$6.29 million) in assets as of March this year, up from Rp 46.93 in 2010.

Fauzi's running mate, Nachrowi Ramli, said that his total wealth in 2012 reached Rp 15.78 billion. Nachrowi had previously reported his wealth to be worth Rp 683.12 million to the KPK in 2001.

Independent aspirant Hendardji Soepandji told KPK commissioners, the Jakarta General Election Commissions (KPU) chairwoman and the Jakarta Elections Supervisory Committee head that his total wealth in 2012 was Rp 32.18 billion, jumping from Rp 5.99 billion and $170,463 two years ago.

Sharing his ticket, Ahmad Riza Patria reported that he owned a total of Rp 2.79 billion in assets this year.

Surakarta Mayor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said that his personal assets as of March this year totaled Rp 27.25 billion, up from Rp 18.46 billion and $9,483 in 2010.

Jokowi's running mate, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, said that he owned Rp 12.46 billion and $5,030 in assets this year, up from Rp 6.33 billion in 2009.

Gubernatorial hopeful Hidayat Nur Wahid said that his personal wealth was Rp 12.14 billion and $7,500, increasing from Rp 6.32 billion in 2009.

His running mate, Didik J. Rachbini, declared that he controlled Rp 7.79 billion and $8,342 in assets, increased from Rp 4.36 billion and $7,000 in 2006.

Independent candidate Faisal Basri said that he had Rp 4.13 billion in wealth, while his running mate, Biem Benjamin, owned Rp 33.03 billion.

The last candidate pair, Alex Noerdin and Nono Sampono, said that their assets this year were Rp 19.69 billion and Rp 13.71 billion respectively.

Alex's assets increased from Rp 10.95 billion in 2008, while Nono's were up from Rp 3.84 billion in 2006.
