National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Saud Usman Nasution says his office will build 200 police district headquarters in new autonomous regions throughout Indonesia.

Police were currently examining which regions should be prioritized for the district headquarters, Saud said Thursday as quoted by Antara news agency on the sidelines of a police meeting in Bandarlampung, Lampung.

Lampung Police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. Sulistyaningsih said Lampung would only have one additional police district headquarters.

“The National Police are prioritizing Mesuji regency to have a district headquarters, as it is considered a conflict-prone area,” he said as quoted by Antara.

For that purpose, the Lampung Police will recruit 300 new police officers this year.

A legal scholar at Lampung University’s School of Social and Political Sciences, Sunarto, said a newly established autonomous region should ideally have its own security apparatus separate from its previous main city or regency to create a safe environment. (png/mtq)
