PEKANBARU: Riau Governor Rusli Zainal has banned official vehicles from using subsidized fuel.
Riau provincial administration human relations chief Chairul Riski said the ban was endorsed in circular No. 5/2012, dated June 5. “The policy was aimed at following up the presidential directive on national energy conservation and maintaining the subsidized fuel quota in 2012,” Chairul said on Wednesday.
“Civil servants of the Riau provincial administration using official vehicles should buy Pertamax for gasoline-fueled cars and Pertamax Dex for diesel-fueled cars,” Chairul added.
As of next week, every vehicle in the Riau provincial administration’s fleet would feature a sticker affixed to their exteriors indicating that only non-subsidized fuel should be used, he added.
Chairul asked state oil and gas company Pertamina to ensure that an adequate number of gas stations offered non-subsidized fuel to implement the policy. “It would be better to introduce a subscription system or vouchers to facilitate purchase of non-subsidized fuel,” Chairul said.
