227 traffic accidents in Bogor kill 145 in 2012

The number of traffic accidents in Bogor, West Java, that have taken place over the course of the year as of May 2012 has reached 227, up from 168 during the same period last year.

These 227 accidents claimed the lives of 145 people. Some 156 suffered serious injuries, while 166 people sustained minor injuries.

As many as 216 two-wheeled and 155 four-wheeled vehicles were involved in these 227 accidents.

Police said that most of these accidents were the result of carelessness. Many of the drivers were fatigued, while some were using vehicles that were not roadworthy. Poor driving skills were also a factor in several accidents.

Police also said that most of the traffic incidents occurred along the road connecting Bogor, Ciawi and Sukabumi due to its cramped conditions and heavy flow of traffic, kompas.com reported on Monday. (png/iwa)
