Miranda celebrates birthday behind bars

JAKARTA: Miranda S. Goeltom celebrated her 63rd birthday on Tuesday, albeit behind bars at the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) detention center.
The graft suspect and former Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor was remembered by many, as evinced by the birthday bouquets and wishes sent to her while incarcerated.
“Yes, the flowers are for her [Miranda]. Today is her birthday,” acting KPK spokesman Priharsa Nugraha told reporters.
The flowers began arriving at 9 a.m and kept on coming until noon.
Senders included the Arisan Chantique community, Pungky P. Wibowo DPNP (Bank Indonesia), the Musrir Musa family and Yati Kurniati-Ayudha D. Prayoga.
Miranda was detained by on KPK since June 1 for her involvement in the 2004 vote-buying scandal behind her selection as a Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor.
Miranda’s family members were nowhere to be seen at the KPK office building.
