Music promoter Java Festival Production announced Wednesday that it had cancelled Indonesia’s biggest rock music festival, Java Rockin’ Land, slated to be held on July 6 – 8, citing its inability to bring all targeted headliner artists.
Java Festival Production president director Dewi Gontha told The Jakarta Post that they did not want to disappoint the fans and sponsors by pushing the festival regardless of the holes in the lineup.
“We don't want to serve a half-prepared menu. It's better for us take a step back and begin preparation for next year's festival; we'll make a quality festival,” Dewi said.
The promoter said that they had to compete with all the summer music festivals in US and Europe, adding that it was not a competition they could win this year.
Among international names that had been announced to perform at the festival, previously slated for July 6 to 8, were Moth, Spiritualized, System of Venus, The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Standards and Yuck.
The lineup of local acts included /rif, Deadsquad, Edane, Koil, Gugun Blues Shelter, Pure Saturday, Pas Band and Seringai before the festival’s cancellation. (swd)
