Former Peterpan front man convict Nazriel Irham, better known as Ariel Peterpan, is set to be placed on parole next month thanks to his good behavior. The pop sensation is serving a prison sentence for a sex video scandal.

M. Nasir Almi, head of the Law and Human Rights Ministry’s office in Bandung, West Java, said on Monday that the singer would be on parole starting from mid-July until next year, when he would be a completely free man.

“He will have to report to the Bandung Detention Office each month before his official release next year,” said Nasir as quoted by tempo.co.

Ariel is serving his prison sentence at Kebonwaru Detention Center in Bandung, West Java.

Bandung Court sentenced the vocalist to 3.5-years in prison in January last year for producing a pornographic video intended for private use, which was distributed by another individual. He tried to appeal the verdict but it was turned down by the Supreme Court last year.

According to Indonesian law, a convict is eligible for parole after serving two-thirds of his or her sentence.

Ariel, who has been locked up since June 2010, since the investigation began, was set to stay behind bars for the next four months to complete two-thirds of his 3.5-year sentence.

However, because of his good behavior during his incarceration, he has been granted a remission that has qualified him for parole next month. (asa)
