Malaysian police officers shot dead three Indonesian robbery suspects in a shoot-out on a Kuala Lumpur toll road, according to a Foreign Ministry press release made available on Wednesday.

“The Malaysian police said the suspects had ended up being shot by police after they fired shots toward police officers chasing them along the toll road,” the ministry announced.

Your comments:

For the past few years, Malaysia has been infested by criminals, both local and foreign, perpetrating offenses such as drug trafficking, prostitution, scams, roadside robberies, rape and violent robberies.

Even ATM machines have been uprooted and carted away by thieves. This is not including the regular night landings of illegal immigrants from neighboring countries. The police have their hand full with all these problems. The jails are overcrowded and court cases are piling up by the day.

At the same time, some people in Malaysia have been overly critical of their own police force.

Consider all this when you think of the officers who were attacked by a gang of suspicious characters that they challenged.

You are the police. You have your uniforms, and these people have no respect for the law whose enforcement is entrusted in your hands.

You have the authority, and they should surrender. Instead they turn aggressive and attack. What would you do?

It is sad that some people commenting on this issue want to indulge in nationalist hatred. There are a half million Indonesians in Malaysia. Some of them will commit crimes.

Next time, police should first ask thieves to show their passports before shooting them dead.
