Italy and England go to extra time at Euro 2012

A- A A+

Italy failed to finish a series of good chances against England on Sunday, sending their European Championship quarterfinal match to extra time at 0-0 after 90 minutes.

Italy dominated throughout but showed poor composure in front of goal while England goalkeeper Joe Hart made several good stops.

Daniele De Rossi hit the post in the third minute with a spinning left-foot shot, and scuffed a close-range shot wide early in the second half.

Italy had three rapid-fire chances in the 52nd, but Hart saved from De Rossi and Mario Balotelli before Riccardo Montolivo lashed a loose ball high.

England seldom threatened after defender Glen Johnson forced Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon to swat away his fifth-minute shot.
