A villager who saw a motorcycle lying atop something by the roadside rushed to lift the machine and was shocked to see a body with gunshot wounds on the neck and chest.
There was also a shotgun straddled across the victim.
The villager immediately called the police, who rushed to the scene at Kampung Air Manis, near here, at about 12:15 a.m. yesterday.
The victim was identified as Ah Yat Hassan, 60, who was said to be traveling towards the village at the time of the incident.
Police, however, have ruled out robbery or murder and did not suspect any foul play either.
“We believe that the victim may have lost control of his bike and fell.
“And this could have accidentally caused the shotgun to go off twice,” said Kulaijaya OCPD Supt Zulkefly Yahya.
He added that police have classified the case as sudden death.
Ah Yat's remains have been sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital for a post-mortem while the police investigate how the firearm had come to be in the victim's possession.
