Comment: China slam claim to islands by Hanoi

A- A A+

June 23, Online/China Daily

China’s top legislature strongly protested against Vietnam’s “erroneous” new maritime law and urged its Vietnamese counterpart to make an “immediate correction”.

Hanoi’s disputes with Beijing in the South China Sea have given rise to frictions, and analysts said the passed law may internationalize the issue.

Your comments:

Qi Jianguo is right: this new law changes nothing, not the fact that China invaded and eventually occupied these islands since 1974 (aracel/Hoang Sa) and 1988 (Spratlys/Truong Sa) after centuries of Vietnamese ownership.

Furthermore, China is intending to take over the whole South China Sea regardless of any international laws and or opposition from any of its neighbors (Brunei, Malaysia, Taiwan, the Philippines and Vietnam).

It is about time for ASEAN nations to wake up before it becomes too late and for paper such as the Jakarta Post to stop helping China with their free propaganda by printing this one-sided article.
